As part of the Mapus Centenary Challenge a small group of us teamed up to walk the 25 miles from King’s Lynn to Downham Market,………………………………………….. and back!
So on a misty Sunday morning at 8am 4 of us set off from the King’s Lynn office. It soon became apparent that not all walking boots are created equal, especially when it comes to waterproofing, as on very dewy morning some socks were soon sodden!
Never the less we struggled on and, after a pit stop for dry socks and a quick snack, we reached Downham Market.
The hardest part was turning around and realising we had to do it all again on the way back. By now the sun had burnt through the clouds and it was turning into a very warm day.
Going got slower and slower as feet began to ache and energy levels flagged. We were invigorated by an ice cream at Wiggenhall St Germans but the sugar soon wore off and the last 3 miles were the hardest walking imaginable.
However, with constant support and encouragement we all returned to the King’s Lynn office by 6pm. 25 miles complete and a total of 100 miles to add to Challenge total.
For me personally this was the toughest physical challenge I have ever completed and it was only with encouragement from Vikkie, Andrew and Robin that I made it.
For some this was starting point to try and walk 100 miles in June so please watch this space to see how that went and also details of other challenges we set ourselves in 2018 all for some very good causes!
